The Duomo, Florence
“This is the fairest picture on our planet, the most enchanting to look upon, the most satisfying to the eye and the spirit. To see the sun sink down, drowned on his pink and purple and golden floods, and overwhelm Florence with tides of color that make all the sharp lines dim and faint and turn the solid city to a city of dreams, is a sight to stir the coldest nature, and make a sympathetic one drunk with ecstasy.” - Mark TwainMark Twain was spot on with his description of the Duomo in Florence. I wish I was that elegant with words!! It seems like I've been back in Florence every year for the last few years, and I'm most definitely not complaining about it! The plaza by the Duomo might be one of my favorite spots on Earth. Every evening, I'll grab a gelato, and sit on one of the stone benches to watch the sun turn it shades of yellow and then pink as it goes down.I love love love shooting in timeless places like this. One thing I think is really important though is timing. I asked this couple if we could start at 6am. DANG, that's early. But its magic. The sun is just coming up, the light is beautiful, and most important of all, we're the only people there. At 6am, there was maybe a jogger. It didn't last very long, by seven, the plaza was already bustling, but catching that early morning sunrise, totally worth it.
